Since I was a small child I have been intrigued by music. My father had played the violin in high school and local orchestras before WWII and frost bite and economics limited his options. Hearing him work on performance pieces made an impression on me that lasted.
I took about 10 lessons from a Classical/Flamenco teacher, which gave me a decent start on technique, at age 12. That was the year of the Beatles "invasion." Playing pop tunes with friends became a major part of our social life through high school.
As a student at Indiana University I met up with some aspiring Jazz musicians and took the plunge, auditing courses taught by David Baker for three semesters. Making music was my life for the next four years. One page of this site is dedicated to that era and the musicians who helped motivate me, then and now.
In the late 1990's I got the urge again to get more serious with music again. After a few fits and starts, I found myself playing for enjoyment with a pianist, who had a long time friend who has been singing in the area for decades. The three of us have been gigging and playing together ever since. You can check out our website at www.demarjontrio.com or our facebook page--
